The Perfect Portable TV: Haier HLT71 7 inch LCD TV. This 7″ inch portable television by Haier is a great digital travel television and has become one of the best selling televisions in 2009! Because of its built in battery system and digital tuner, viewers can use this television on the road, by the pool, or on vacation. Our reviewers used this television in a number of different scenarios and agreed that the Haier 7-inch LCD did a great job of picking up digital over the air channels. The portable Haier LCD has a nice 7-Inch wide screen active matrix TFT screen and has audio/video inputs to hook up just about anything, including a handy car AC adapter for use on the road. Using the USB port and the 3-in-1 (SD/MS/MMC) card reader also gives you the ability to use it as a digital frame or as a portable music device.

Haier HLT71
The Haier HLT71 provides viewers with a program guide that informs viewers of the previous and the upcoming TV programs, regardless of the station you’re watching. The Haier LCD has also provided a small kickstand that allows the viewer to watch hands free. Although the display is not a high definition (HD) set, it does a great job of displaying standard and HD channels.
We should also mention Haier HLT71 only works with digital inputs (i.e. over the air, satellite, or digital ready cable) because it is only equipped with an ATSC tuner. This small LCD is not equipped with a DVD player either, so if you are looking for a portable television with a built-in DVD player you will have to look elsewhere. Our reviewers agreed that sound quality and volume was sufficient for its small size. Don’t expect great things out of the small twin speakers. The sound quality was slightly improved when we utilizing standard over-the-ear headphones.
We found the Haier HLT71‘s battery life was about what we expected under normal use. We tested the battery under several conditions and the lithium-ion battery generally lasted between 2 hour and a half and two and a half hours. In fairness to this television, it does come equipped with a AC power cord and can be connected to a car adapter.
All thing considered, this is one of the best portable digital LCD televisions on the market today. Although it retails at $130.00, we’ve seen it Amazon for under $70.00. Out of the portable LCDs we’ve tested, this is our top choice. Purchase with confidence!

Up for Review: Samsung PN50B450 Plasma HDTV This 50 inch Plasma screen television provides a great viewing experience and offers excellent HD quality in 720p resolution without a high price. Thanks to this television’s high definition capabilities and Samsung’s superb e-panel technology the PN50B450 delivers sharp images and crystal-clear details. Our reviewers were very impressed with the HDTV’s video details and vivid color thanks to the 2,000,000:1 Mega Contrast dynamic contrast ratio and Samsung’s solid, Wide Color Enhancer 2 technology that helps produce more natural rendering of colors that are often lost in standard definition programming. Compared to several other higher end HD plasmas reviewed, the B450 produced colors as well or in several instances better than its more expensive counterparts.
The .001ms response time ensured we didn’t see any ghosting or blurring with this plasma screen television. We also liked this Plasma screen when its used to play video games, watch action films and sporting events. And despite the lower end of the resolution scale, we couldn’t detect much difference in image quality between the 720p and higher end 1080p picture unless we were within five feet of the screen.

Samsung PN50B450
The Samsung PN50B450 utilizing Filter Bright technology to cut down on glare. We thought it did a decent job in most lighting situations, but its not perfect. We should also mention that our reviewers rarely saw any remaining images after the screen went dark, but in the two instances they did it was gone within a couple of seconds. As with most plasma screens, the richness of blacks and shadows were great as well as the brightness of white images.
The Samsung PN50B450 provides superb connectivity and networking thanks to a single USB port–for playing MP3 audio and displaying JPEG/MPEG files–and three HDMI 1.3 ports, and it also provides great sound thanks to dual 10-watt, two-way stereo speakers and an integrated subwoofer. This HDTV’s bezel design is produced in a sophisticated piano black with sleek and solid bezel design. Consumers who are concerned with energy usage and the environment will be pleased to learn the PN50B450 is Energy Star 3.0 compliant which drives down operating cost on this model over last year’s by a solid 35%, making this plasma operating cost comparable to similarly sized LCD displays.
Those who have purchased this Plasma HDTV have been impressed with its overall picture quality and lower than expected purchase costs! If you are looking for a great 50 inch display for less than $900 the Samsung PN50B450 is a superior choice. With Samsung’s focus on picture quality and additional features in this 50 inch plasma, we expected this television to retail for close to $1,100. Purchase this plasma with confidence, Samsung has provided consumers with a great large HDTV!

Our latest Review: Samsung PN50B550 Plasma HDTV This 50 inch Plasma screen television provides a great viewing experience and offers top of the line picture quality with 1080p high definition resolution. Samsung’s superb e-panel technology is the greatest factor in delivering sharp motion and crystal clear images. We were very impressed with the HDTV’s video details and vivid color thanks in part to the 3,000,000:1 Mega Contrast dynamic contrast ratio and Samsung’s Wide Color Enhancer 2 technology. This system helps produce more natural rendering of colors that are often lost in standard definition programming. The .001ms response time ensured we didn’t see any ghosting or blurring with this plasma screen television. Also provided on this plasma screen television is Samsung’s “Video Smooth” feature that delivers video from BluRay and HD satellite in native 24p content, the same frame rate as movies are recorded. We also liked this Plasma screen when its used to play video games and to watch sporting events. We didn’t observe any jerking or judder that is sometimes present with other plasma screens.

Samsung PN50B550
The Samsung PN50B550 like most decent Plasma screen televisions is equipped with an anti-glare technology. Samsung protects against glare utilizing a Filter Bright technology. We thought it did a decent job in most lighting situations, but its not perfect. Those considering the PN50B550 should avoid placing it in direct lighting to better view programming.
The Samsung PN50B550 provides great connectivity and networking thanks to double USB ports–for playing MP3 audio and displaying JPEG/MPEG files–and four HDMI 1.3 ports, and it also provides solid sound thanks to dual 10-watt, two-way stereo speakers and an integrated subwoofer. This HDTV’s bezel design is produced in a sophisticated piano black with Samsung’s new ToC (Touch of Color) forward looking bezel design that adds a conservative charcoal gray outline around the set.
Plasma TVs are well known for being power hogs and rightfully get the bad rap. However, we were impressed with this set because the PN42B450 is loaded with a number of power saving features and is Energy Star 3.0 compliant. We observed that this set is 50% cheaper to run than last years model, making the B550 series TV not much more expensive than a comparably sized LCD to operate.
Consumers who have purchased this Plasma HDTV have been very impressed with its extra features and lower than expected operating costs. If you are looking for a great 50 inch display for less than $1,000 the Samsung PNPN50B550 is an solid choice. With Samsung’s focus on picture quality and additional features in this 50 inch plasma, we expected this television to retail for close to $1,500. Purchase with confidence, Samsung has provided consumers with a great plasma HDTV!
