Up for Review: LG 42PQ30 – On the value end of LG’s plasma HD sets for 2009 is the 42 inch42PQ30. These TVs are always great sellers and LG does a good job of competing on the value end with Samsung and Panasonic. With solid 720p high definition technology, excellent sound quality, and features that one expects to find on higher end models, this inexpensive LG plasma is sure to please!

Cleverreviews.com likes this plasma set’s Auto Volume Leveler II which helps to reduce large swings in volume output during commercials and when changing channels. The LG 42PQ30 also SimpLink connectivity to compatible digital cameras and camcorders. We also liked that this flat screen has 3 HDMI inputs and contains LG’s Deep color V.1.3 technology which adds true depth and real dimension to movies. Lastly, the resolution of 720p (1366 X 768) may seem like yesterdays HD resolution, but since you will be viewing 95% or more of your HD content in either 1080i or 720p these 720p plasmas are the best bang for the buck as the price is always considerably less.

Like the other LG Plasma televisions introduced in 2009, we really love the time and effort put into the design. Our reviewers gave the LG 42PQ30 top marks for its clean and modern design. The set is fronted by a single pane of glass, behind which appear the screen and the black border around it. Below the screen is a simple angled-back horizontal strip, accented only by the chrome arc of the power switch on the left side. The sides are edged in metallic silver that matches the pedestal on the swivel stand, which is shaped in its own arc mirroring the power switch. The plasma screen LGs are some of the best looking HDTVs we have reviewed this year.

With a sleek design, excellent picture quality, high-fidelity sound and a cost savings platform, the LG 42PQ30 is an excellent choice for those wanting a quality plasma TV without the high plasma price.

Up for Review: LG 50PQ30 – LG proves that a great Plasma set doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg! This low-cost HD Plasma set is one of three released by major manufactures (the others by Panasonic & Samsung) in 2009 and the LG 50PQ30 is the best value of the three. The 50-inch plasma set supports 720p HD signals as well standard definition television. We were impressed with the 50PQ30’s ability as a plasma TV to display inky rich blacks, the purest whites and every vibrant color in between. To help provide realistic movement, LG has also included its 600 Hz smooth motion picture processing technology which is ideal for video games, sports, action and movies. We were also impressed with the lack of image retention on the set when scenes cut to black or when a program cuts to a commercial, this is something we did not expect on the this inexpensive LG plasma set. The set does have a somewhat ineffective anti-reflective coating, but glare was overcome by removing light from the direct sight of the television.

We liked the 50PQ30’s sound quality as well. The speakers are nicely hidden underneath the set, and LG includes several sound enhancement modes, two of which – the ClearVoice and auto-volume – are very useful.

This larger size plasma HDTV also has a variety of inputs – 3 HDMI inputs, which is enough to plug in a cable box, gaming system and a Blu-ray DVD player. All our reviewers gave the LG 50PQ30 strong marks for its exterior design. It is fronted by a single pane of glass, behind which appear the screen and the black border around it. We like the swivel stand as well, which helps correct any issues with glare. This set is also Energy Star 3.0 compliant, which helps reduce the cost of operating this flat screen as well as lessens its impact on the environment.

It’s hard to go wrong at this price with LG’s 50PQ30. Like other LG Plasma’s in this year’s line up it is extremely stylish and retailing at or around $1,000, it’s a great bargain. Given its natural color, solid build quality, full feature set, and fantastic image quality, the set recommends itself. Buy with confidence

Up for Review: LG 60PS60 – LG’s High Definition Plasma televisions have received accolades for their color reproduction and fast response times- up to 1000x faster than other flat panel technologies. The LG 60PS60 is no exception. This HD Plasma set is part of LG’s 2009 PS60 series. The 60-inch plasma set supports full 1080p HD signals as well standard definition television. We were impressed with the 60PS60’s ability to display images and video in great quality, regardless of the definition settings. A major component of this Plasma’s image quality is its 600 Hz smooth motion picture processing and super bright panel technology.

The PS60 series of LG are THX certified plasma HDTV’s and the picture and sound quality were top notch as we tested the LG 60PS60 especially in the THX mode. One area of concern we did have with picture quality was the depth of black coloring, it was better than any LCD we’ve seen, but not as good as some plasmas we have tested. However, with 600Hz Smooth Motion technology, a 1080p resolution and 30,000:1 contrast ratio, the LG 60PS60 is an exceptional HD set that will provide excellent picture quality. LG also promises a 100,000 hour life span for the PS60 series which means this 60-inch set will last longer than other plasma sets. If you are looking for a plasma set that will run forever, this is the set for you!
