The Next Generation of LCD’s: The LG 47LH50 47-inch LCD HDTV – LG’s 47-inch LCD HD television has established the mark for future televisions that we will see produced in the next couple of years. LG’s LH50 series televisions were the first “Internet Ready” LCDs to provide direct connectivity to Netflix, Yahoo! Widgets, and YouTube. The LG 47LH50 provides consumers with full high definition 1080p and includes TruMotion 120Hz technology to reduce motion blur with fast-moving content. The 120Hz technology utilizes motion interpolation to create smoother movement in fast action video sequences. LG also produces a higher end series of televisions that incorporate 240Hz technology, but our reviewers did not believe that there was a large enough difference between 120Hz and 240Hz motion detail to justify the considerate cost difference between the LH50 and LH55 series televisions. In addition to the differences in refresh rates, the LH55 televisions are not Internet capable.

LG has incorporated its fantastic Real Cinema technology in the 47LH50. Real Cinema reduces film judder in a more natural way by adding a 5:5 pulldown perspective to 24p film sources. To round out the LH50’s visual stabilization, LG has provided a S-IPS (Super In Plane Switching) panel structure leads to better viewing as it reduces motion blur significantly. Our reviewers were impressed with the LH50’s ability to produce fast video without the image being the least bit slurred. Consumers should be extremely pleased with this LCD’s video clarity and control features. The rear panel of the 47LH50 provides a RS-232 port for integration into an advanced control system, an advanced feature set not usually found on mid-level LG LCD televisions. However, the set fails to provide owners with a S-Video Input, which is standard on most HDTVs. Our reviewers sole issue with the video technology in the LH50 was that the black levels produced by the LCD panel were somewhat grayer than we expected, an issue we’ve seen on a number of mid and lower end LG televisions.

Both televisions in the LH50 series are built to exceed Energy Star’s strict 3.0 standards. The use of different features like reduced back lighting, video mute and Intelligent Sensor drastically reduce energy consumption. This LG 47LH50 utilizes the optimum amount of power whether it’s in theater mode or powered down to standby mode. Viewers also don’t have to dim the brightness or contrast manually. The Intelligent Sensor detects the brightness of ambient lighting and adjusts the brightness of the screen accordingly. These features combined makes the LH50 an inexpensive television to operate.

The LG 47LH50 comes equipped with a single USB 2.0 slot that gives owners the ability to play music and view pictures, a nicety that was enjoyed by our reviewers. LG also provides four (4) HDMI ports to allow connectivity to high definition components such as Blu-Ray Players, Xbox 360 game systems, and HD satellite systems. We were very impressed with the sound and video quality of the LH50 series television when it was connected a Blu-Ray and PS3 system via the HDMI ports.

Viewers can easily customize their viewing options with the LG 47LH50. Our reviewers agree that LG provides easy calibration options for video and audio together with enhanced access to content through an easy to use set up manager and audio/visual setting tools. The screen size is excellent for most applications. You can set it up in any room and get a great viewing experience. LG has also incorporated a 20 degree swivel in the base of the LCD so the screen can be seen from just about any place in the room.

With its industry leading suite of features and amazing sound and video quality, we strongly recommend this television. It retails at $1,700 but can be found Amazon.com for about $1,350. If you are looking for a larger LCD with solid picture and sound quality you do not need to look any further than the LG 47LH50. Purchase with confidence.
