HDTV & Electronics Reviews – Ratings on Vizio, Sony, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, Pioneer, Hitachi, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic & More

An outstanding HDTV: LG 47LH90 LCD HDTV. The 47 inch 47LH90 television is the manufacturer’s flag ship LCD for 2009 and our reviewers agreed that it does an excellent job of competing against some of the best plasma screen television in terms of picture quality and clarity. Equipped with 1080p resolution, a 240 HZ refresh rate, THX Display Certification, and an amazing contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1, this television boasts one of the best pictures available today. In addition to its superb video qualities, the LH90 series is built with a super-slim panel that is less than 1-inch thick, making it the perfect thin profile television to be mounted on a wall or above a fireplace.

In addition to the LG 47LH90‘s full HD 1080p resolution, LG has also introduced TruMotion 240 Hz refresh rate technology for the 47 inch LCD. As compared to the conventional 120 Hz dejudder processing, this higher refresh rate produces a clearer and sharper image without any detectable motion blur. Our reviewers were very impressed with the TruMotion technology’s ability to cleanly handle up-conversion programming without the aid of a separate up-converting DVD/VHS player. Color contrast on this television is second to none thanks to a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 2,000,000:1. Like LG’s other 2009 models, this new LCD has extensive picture controls including the 10-point IRE system and full color management controls. The new LG 47LH90 also boasts a picture wizard feature which utilizes a series of onscreen test patterns to ease the user calibration. And the 24p Real Cinema system with a 5:5 Pulldown allows viewers to enjoy theater style movies in their original format without any compromise in quality. With the introduction of the 47LH90, LG has created one of the best LCDs on the market today!

The LG 47LH90 LCD TV boasts many of LG’s energy saving features, making it a power miser and a good choice for those seeking an environmentally friendly flat panel. The system’s Super-In Plane Switching (S-IPS) LCD panel generates faster response times and better color contrast with less power. Another energy saving feature is LG’s proprietary intelligent room lighting Sensor which automatically adjusts the brightness of the images according to the room light. Owners also have the ability to manually adjust energy usage via a simple interface that provides instant video and audio feedback under the reduced or increased power consumption. These systems combined make the LH90 series an Energy Star 3.0 compliant television and one of the cheapest to operate.

The LG 47LH90 is equipped with a total of 4 HDMI (V1.3) inputs, as well as a number of component connections. Consumers have a number of ways to connect to Blu-Ray players, XBox game consoles, and cable/satellite receivers. This LCD is also ISFccc Ready. LG’s proprietary Simplink technology is designed to facilitate connection with compatible cameras and camcorders. We should also mention that the USB 2.0 port makes the television a useful platform to display digital photos and play music.

There were only a few omission that we could see on the LH90 series LCD. The biggest is the Internet-connected interactive capability which is heavily touted in the LH50 series televisions, LG’s only LCD models with that included interactive Internet action (i.e. direct connection to Netflix and other Internet video services). We are hopefully that LG will incorporate this cutting edge technology into more of it’s mid and upper end models next year. We also noticed that the LG 47LH90 is missing a simple S-Video port as well. We can only assume that LG believes the system’s multiple HDMI inputs are sufficient for consumer demands.

If you are looking for a top of the line LG LCD then the LH90 is the right choice for you. Retailing at $2,300, we’ve found it online for as little as $1999. This is an amazing LCD HDTV! You can purchase with confidence!

I narrowed my search down to 2 TVs that were sitting side by side in BB. One was a Samsung LED (I am not sure of the model now, but it was on sale for about $1700) and the LG 47LH90 (currently on sale for $1500). In the store both sets looked great, but I probably would have chose the Samsung except that it did not have as many input ports / methods as the LG. I have a few older Tivos which the Samsung could not handle. It also would be nice to occasionally connect a still or video camera. No Can do with the Samsung.
