Up for review: LG 55LH55 LCD HDTV – LG has released a larger 55-inch HD LCD television that brings a great number of video and audio control features that allows owners to easily manage the home theater experience. With 1080p resolution, the LH55 series is LG’s least expensive HDTV equipped with 240Hz refresh rate technology. This system features scanning backlight that arguably outperforms other blur resolution methods. Televisions equipped with 240Hz systems usually deliver better motion blur reduction and clearer and crisper images and our reviewers agreed that the LH55 we tested does a great job of reducing blur. Other visual enhancing systems on the LH55 such as S-IPS, an extremely advanced picture wizard, and the utilization of an Intelligent Sensor that responses to ambient lighting conditions, help create a superior picture for viewers. The LH55 series have a superior 80,000:1 contrast and brightness capabilities (500 cd/m2) that produce very rich black levels and clean and sharp white color. We were impressed with the overall video quality, regardless of the application (gaming, sports, action, etc.) we tested.

LG 55LH55
We were very impressed with theLG 55LH55‘s excellent audio capabilities as well. The on board audio system is greatly enhanced with a Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder and SRS TruSurround XT which helps deliver a virtual surround sound experience. The utilization of LG’s “Invisible Speaker System” is great for aesthetics, but detract somewhat on the LH55 model our reviewers tested. For movie enthusiasts, we recommend utilizing a separate surround sound system to enhance the home theater experience. Bass, treble and balance controls and 5 pre-set selectable sound modes allow viewers to create a customized sound for any number of applications. We also greatly appreciate LG’s usage of Auto Volume Leveler II technology on this LCD TV that automatically responses to changes in audio levels and prevents annoying volume fluctuations that occur during commercials breaks.
LG has provided consumers with four (4) V.1.3 HDMI ports, 2 component video inputs, and a USB port which allows the LG 55LH55 to be hooked into any number of HD components as well as a computer system. With it’s Energy Star 3.0 compliance rating and its space saving frame, this television is inexpensive to own and operate. The energy usage on the LH55 flat panels are less than any competitor’s we’ve reviewed in 2009. If energy saving is an important factor in your television purchase, this LG LCD is the right choice for you!
The 55LH55 provides owners with a vast number of picture quality adjustments, the majority of which create excellent color accuracy. Its overall picture is excellent for a mid-range LCD, but the sound package leave something to be desired. If you can handle the minor sound issues and are focused on the LH55′s video quality and energy savings, this is one of the more tempting LCDs available on the market today.
