A Great Plasma: Samsung PN50B650 Plasma HDTV This 50 inch Plasma screen television provides a great viewing experience and offers top of the line picture quality with 1080p high definition resolution. Thanks to this television’s high definition capabilities and Samsung’s superb e-panel technology the PN50B650 delivers sharp images and crystal-clear details. Our reviewers were very impressed with the HDTV’s video details and vivid color thanks to the 3,000,000:1 Mega Contrast dynamic contrast ratio and Samsung’s top of the line, Wide Color Enhancer 3 technology that helps produce more natural rendering of colors that are often lost in standard definition programming. The .001ms response time ensured we didn’t see any ghosting or blurring with this plasma screen television. Also provided on this plasma screen television is Samsung’s “Video Smooth” feature that delivers video from BluRay and HD satellite in native 24p content, the same frame rate as movies are recorded. We also liked this Plasma screen when its used to play video games and to watch sporting events. We didn’t observe any jerking or judder that is sometimes present with other plasma screens.

Samsung PN50B650

The Samsung PN50B650 minimized image glare utilizing Filter Bright technology. We thought it did a decent job in most lighting situations, but its not perfect. We were however impressed with the lack of any image burning or “ghosting” with this set. Our reviewers rarely saw any remaining images after the screen went dark, but in the two instances they did it was gone within a couple of seconds. As with most plasma screens, the richness of blacks and shadows were great as well as the brightness of white images.

The Samsung PN50B650 provides superb connectivity and networking thanks to double USB ports–for playing MP3 audio and displaying JPEG/MPEG files–and four HDMI 1.3 ports, and it also provides solid sound thanks to dual 10-watt, two-way stereo speakers and an integrated subwoofer. This HDTV’s bezel design is produced in a sophisticated piano black with Samsung’s new ToC (Touch of Color) forward looking bezel design that adds an amber outline around the set. Consumers who are concerned with energy usage and the environment will be pleased to learn the PN42B450 is Energy Star 3.0 compliant which drives down operating cost on this model over last year’s by an amazing 40%!

Another great feature we liked on this plasma screen television is Samsung’s Medi@2.0 Connectivity that allows viewers to receive content via Yahoo!®, Flickr® and other online TV widgets on screen. It also includes Content Library so owners enjoy pre-loaded content, such as cooking recipes and fitness exercises. In addition to the system’s Internet connectivity, the DLNA CERTIFIED™ feature lets you remotely access your PC’s personal media so that you can download music, video and photos and enjoy them on this television.

Consumers who have purchased this Plasma HDTV have been very impressed with its extra features and lower than expected purchase costs! If you are looking for a great 50 inch display for less than $1,250 the Samsung PN50B650 is an great choice. With Samsung’s focus on picture quality and additional features in this 50 inch plasma, we expected this television to retail for close to $1,900. Purchase with confidence, Samsung has provided consumers with a great plasma HDTV!

I just came across your site. I like the way you have it laid out. This is a very nice review. The 50″er is looks like it may be a nice addition to any home theater. Thanks for the nice review.

Both the 550 and 650 seem like comparable sets. The only difference between them that I can see is the media connectivity. I am assuming that it is these additional features which give the 650 a superior rating. In terms of performance, they should be the same. If you don’t need the media features, the 550 is more than adequate.
